Isa's Baby Shower

While we were in Michigan, we were able to attend Isa's baby shower.  Isa is the wife of Alex's cousin, Tomek.  They flew in to Michigan from California.  This was the first time they met Amelia & Julian.

It was so great to see Alex's cousins and aunt & uncle!  The food was super yummy (of course) and the company was awesome.

A few highlights:
  • Amelia started the party afraid of the cute doggies (terriers) but ended up loving them.
  • Julian took a pretty good nap during a majority of the party.
  • Amelia LOVED the piano and had a little sing-a-long with Ciocia Basia.
  • Amelia danced her booty off to the music in the basement.
  • Amelia really wanted to open Isa's presents.

Trip to Michigan

We made our first trip to Michigan as a family of 4 for Labor Day weekend.

My parents loaned us their mini-van (thanks, guys!) and the kids did pretty darn good on the road.  It was the longest car ride Julian has had and, while we had some crying fits here and there, he slept most of the time.

It was a good visit.  Mom got in a trip to Ikea, Dad got to go fishing with his dad, the kids got to play in the pool a ton, we saw family at a baby shower, hung out with friends at a party, and the kids soaked up some Babcia & Dziadek time!  The only thing that would have been better is if we could have stayed for a longer visit.

Julian's Baptism

On Sunday, August 28th, Julian was baptized.

Well, his sacrament of baptism was completed.  Julian had an emergent baptism before his pyloric stenosis surgery in St. John's Children's Hospital at 3 weeks old.  He still needed the part of the ceremony with the Godparents and everything but the holy water.

Choosing Godparents was a lot harder this time.  With Amelia, it was given that my sister & Alex's brother would be her Godparents.  Alex chose his cousin, Piotr, in Poland as Julian's Godfather.  I chose my cousin, Monica, as his Godmother.  We knew Piotr wouldn't be able to come in for the ceremony, but were excited that Monica (and her sister Cristina) were going to fly in!

Mother Nature had other plans.  A little thing called Hurricane Irene prevented Monica & Cristina from flying in for Julian's baptism.  *sigh*  We would have LOVED to have them here, but what can you do?

Alex's mom and brother came in from Michigan for the baptism.  My sister was still in town.  Luckily, we had stand-in Godparents!

The ceremony was nice.  A few interesting tidbits:
  • We thought Julian would be the oldest, but he ended up being the youngest of 3 kids being baptized.
  • Julian fell asleep 2 times during the ceremony.
  • Amelia kept singing, "Happy Birthday dear Jesus!" and was convinced there were fish in the baptismal font.
  • The deacon performing the baptism got holy water in Julian's eyes and hair.
  • Julian's baptismal tux was sewn by my mom.
After the ceremony, we had everyone over at our house for an awesome lunch that my mother in law prepared.
